University of Missouri-Columbia - Organizational Works
University of Missouri-Columbia
College of Education
In the 1990's the University of Missouri-Columbia decided to embark on a $600 million fund raising campaign. Each college or school at the campus was to develop a strategic plan and a fund raising strategy in order to meet its share of the campaign goal. Robert Frank, a College of Education graduate, was asked to serve as chair of the College's Development efforts and to represent the College in the For All We Call MIZZOU campaign. As chair he met frequently with college faculty and staff as well as alumni and central university administrative personnel. He orchestrated a multi-day planning seminar where each of the College's department chairs presented information to the College's Development committee and then he synthesized the information into a strategic plan for the College. He served as chair of the College's Development Committee until 2005.
Organizational Works
Organizational Works is a continuing education / in-service program that was developed over a decade ago. It is designed to teach employees (at businesses, governmental agencies or academic settings) how organizations operate and how to operate within an organization. The company is highly profitable but the owners wanted to set a new strategy for the company. They turned to Illuminor for assistance.
Illuminor, working with an investment banking firm that focuses on the education / training arena developed a proposal for Organization Works that encompassed:
- Defining the Market
- Segmentation of the Market (by industry, corporate structure, size, etc.)
- Trend analysis in the Market-what does the future look like?
- Competitive Assessment— Who are the competitors? How do they market against Organizational Works? Who do the Organizational Works customers identify as competitors?
- Who are the current buyers of the product?
- Who are additional buyers that management would like to sell Organizational Works to?
- What do current customers say needs to be changed, added or deleted from Organizational Works to make it a better product? This can include both content and delivery methods.
